This is a practical course, incorporating weekly exercises designed to reinforce each module and give those attending the confidence to produce well-crafted, media-friendly travel copy. Learn how to avoid the clichés of travel writing while still including the highlights, how to edit your own copy effectively and how to pitch your finished work nationally and internationally. Fred De Vries The writer and journalist Fred De Vries has been based in Johannesburg since 2003. He has an MBA from the University of Utrecht and completed a post-graduate course in journalism at the University of Rotterdam and a masters course in advanced writing at Wits University. He is an adjunct lecturer at Wits, was the recipient of a Writing Fellowship from the Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research and was a judge for the 2004 EU Literary Award. His music and travel book, Club Risiko, was published in 2006 and was nominated for the prestigious Belgian/Dutch Gouden Uil Award. He is currently a freelance travel contributor to the Sunday Times, The Weekender and the Dutch newspapers de Volkskrant, Vrij Nederland and Elsevier.
